New domain

I just a purchased a new domain a few days ago and I’m so excited about it. I know I will not be able to manage another blog but my heart is crying, she’s asking for a new blog, and after a few months of contemplating about it, I finally gave in. It’s not really a waste of money because it makes me happy. This particular blog will focus on a very special dream.

For the first time, I am considering of a hiring a SEO expert to help me get a high ranking in Google. But the possibility of it is very thin because I don’t want to spend more money. Anyway, I am currently having problems with CPanel. Every time I try to access the page, I get prompted to log in over and over again even if I login with the correct username and password.

I won’t be able to set up my new blog if I cannot access my CPanel. I already raised this concern to my host’s support team but they said they are able to log in without any problems. I was advised to use a different browser, which I already did, or try logging in from a different computer. But I only have one laptop and I don’t want to rent.  Please help.

3ix.org is simply the best

I have three WordPress powered blogs and 3ix.org has been my web host provider for more than a year now. So far, I can say that they have been very reliable in terms of customer support. I can hardly remember the number of times when they had to reset my FTP/CPanel/Database login details because I can’t remember my password. In another incident, I mistakenly sent them 10 dollars for the renewal of the starlit sky dot com. I wasn’t aware that that domain was already registered in another company, I mean somebody else already bought it. Good thing, the billing team was honest enough to refund the money within the same day. And the latest headache I gave them? Well, I modified something in my blog’s template and then … I don’t know … I’m not sure … just the morning after that, I couldn’t access my dashboard anymore. It was just a plain white page.  Thinking that it’s stupid Smart Broadband’s fault again, I waited 24 hours before I raised my concern to 3ix’s support team. They immediately checked the error and advised me to re-install WP because something is wrong with the script. I don’t know how to do it so I asked them if they can do it for me which they did so everything is back to normal now. My positive experiences with 3ix is a sign that I will continue patronizing this company ;)

There is just one problem. I need to activate akismet again but I’ve already forgotten the password. Haha. Now, I have to manually delete all the spam comments!

Waiting for Google Page Rank update

Out of boredom, I made a spam blog a few months ago. Well, I can’t really call it spam because all of the posts which I have written for that site are original, just super non-sense, but original at the very least. My purpose was to test if Mr. Google can catch my anomalous blogging activities ;) I know how smart he is, but I was just thinking it would be nice to put him in an exam while I’m earning money.

Now, to promote my website, I submitted it to 26 blogging communities such as blogapedia, blogcatalog, skinnyblog, blogtoparea, globeofblogs, etc. It’s the easiest way to get a PR without having to exchange links with other bloggers. So, in just a month, that blog was able to get a PR1. As we all know it, Mr. Google doesn’t like selling links. But I did and after earning 16 dollars, I lost its PR on the second week of September 2010. Not bad.

After the 3-month test, I therefore conclude that Google is indeed a gifted child, a prodigy for that matter. Hehe. Honestly, I am not waiting for the next major Page Rank update which will probably happen this October. As I’ve said, Google is so smart. There is a fat chance that my PR2 for sterndal dot com will be lost too :)

My new wish: DSLR

All I wanted was to have a laptop. Period. But that was before I learned about the existence of DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras. The idea came when my other journal, Manila Street, got a PR2. I want to transform it into a photo blog featuring every nook and corner of Manila. And besides, the name itself sounds formal. Manila Street. I feel guilty because it deserves decent content and not just my non-sense rants in life which are basically written in Filipino.

So anyway, wouldn’t it be nice to take pictures of Lawton, Binondo and Quiapo? Because these are my favorite spots in Manila. Okay. These places may look dirty and rageddy, but I see something about them that I really appreciate, something beautiful. I mean, we just need to clean the entire city. Perhaps repaint the buildings, plant more flowers, and we’ll be surprised of how elegant these places can be. Nope. I don’t believe that sidewalk vendors should be removed. Sorry about that. They are a part of our culture. We just have to organized things a bit so they wouldn’t be a sore to the eyes.

However, I cannot execute the plan without a decent camera. My sister has a 2 mega pixel camera-phone which I can always borrow but I want something better than that. At least 5 mega pixel digicam will do. For sure, DSLR is absolutely not something I can afford at this point of my life. And for a beginner like me, I feel like it’s an investment not worthy at the moment. But I googled it anyway to have a better understanding of its complexities. Good idea because now I’m obsessed about having one which means I’ll do everything to save enough for that baby :)

I chanced upon an article that says “at first glance some digital cameras can appear to be complex.” It instantly caught my interest because I have always thought that such cameras are intricate and should only be touched by professionals. Most of the things that I need to know about DSLR are discussed in the article. I just hope the author uploaded some photos.

Somebody is sort of discouraging me to save for it because I’m not a techie person. He said it’s only a good investment for people who travel abroad and go to many places. He asked me what will be my subject and without batting an eyelash I said MANILA. With conviction. And why not? This is the place where I grew up! And take note, my first novel is going to be set in this city. First novel …  ha ha ha … wishful thinking ;)

He just laughed. He said Manila is a very common subject and that people already know too much about this city. But he is badly mistaken. I don’t think I need to go abroad to have beautiful photos. Besides, a good photographer uses his/her creativity to make a moment or a thing worth capturing. I’m so pissed because he called me jologs. I walked away scratching my head.

Anyway, reading the article helped me understand the basic things about DSLR which is an eye-opener for me. The author of this article said “it is a skill which is attainable by most people.” I assumed that I am included in that “most people’ because for heaven’s sake I am a college graduate. LOL. I’m not exactly planning of becoming a professional photographer. Just for personal use and for my blogging activities. DSLR camera can wait until Manila Street is already giving me money.

Bells will be ringing …

This is going to be the most interesting topic I’m going to write about. Finally, I was given a writing assignment which I really like. They usually ask me to write about swimming pools, carpets, radiators,  personal loans, gutters, or just about things I really don’t understand. My sister once asked me how I am able to write 300-word articles if I don’t know anything about them. Answer: Nothing. I just type whatever comes to my mind, try to make the paragraphs as long as possible, and make sure the articles will pass Copyscape.

But this time is going to be different. I’m not saying that I’m a know-all about weddings. In fact, I don’t know anything about them, too. Hehehe. I just think writing about church wedding music is so cool! If life were one big soap opera, that walk-down-the-aisle moment is a major highlight in the story. Imagine if there were no music playing in the background while the leading lady is marching towards the altar. Wouldn’t that be utterly boring? That is why I believe this topic is worth writing for. In the near future, brides-to-be will be reading my article and they’d find it useful and entertaining at the same time. Hopefully …

Anyway, I’m glad the turn-around time is not that fast. I was given a whole week to finish all the articles. So I have ample time to accomplish the task. So, literally speaking, bells will be ringing in my writing life. I’m still  more interested with writing fictional stories but I’m not yet confident. It would have to wait a bit longer but it’s on the cards.
