Saving for the future

To say that I own my time just because I do freelance is foolish. I now realized that for freelancers, time is very important. When I was still working as an employee, I was just waiting for the hours to pass. Please don’t get me wrong. I was working hard but at the back of my mind I couldn’t wait for the clock to hit 5PM, then go home and just forget about paper works.

In freelance, there are no weekends, there are no holidays, there are no days off. There are no Mondays to hate and no Fridays to look forward to. There are no vacation and service incentive leave. But to say that we don’t care about hours and days is just plain idiotic. You know how people tell you not to bring your problems from work to home and vice versa? Well, tell me how am I going to apply that with the nature of my present job :)

Anyway as I’ve said, I don’t have time. I’ve been in the writing business for 2 months already and I would like to start saving at least 10% of my income in the coming months. Earnings are good but I’m still on a phase where I just want to enjoy and keep things “light.” But I do have some plans of depositing modest amount of money to my Savings Account soon. I’m just in the adjustment phase. Maybe reading savings and financing articles from http://banktime.com/ will inspire me.

I keep on telling myself that now it’s just me. There is no company that would give me a fixed salary every pay day. My salary now is based on how many articles I finished and how many hours I spent for SEO campaigns. No finished article means no food on the table, no chocolate chips, no zesto, no cheese cake … haha! Gradually, I would increase my working hours in Odesk from 20 to 40.

You see, I’m not working much. Last week, I only rendered 22 hours. I earned $101.75 from odesk plus $55 from my blogs. I bought something from the internet for $5, so my income less expense is $151.75 (for July 11-17, 2011). Starting this week I will try my best to render at least 40 hours. I have enough tasks, it’s my laziness that’s getting in the way. Help me Lord :)

PS. I really need a new blog. I’ve toyed with the idea of buying www[dot]freelanceearnings[dot]com but I don’t want to subtract another $10.99 dollars from my last week’s income. But it’s going to be an investment. Sigh. Why is it so hard to shell out money these days?

Dooce

Nothing.

I have nothing to blog tonight. It’s 2:17AM and I’m still wide awake. Actually, I just woke up. LOL.

There are tons of work to do!

Dear online bosses, don’t worry. I will not sleep tonight until tomorrow to ensure that I will meet the Sunday midnight EST deadline.

But before I start writing, I have to read my favorite blogs first :)

Secret. I don’t want to reveal my favorite bloggers. Hehe.

But I really really like Heather Armstrong, the woman behind Dooce.com

Love her funny and witty writing style. I wish I could have that talent.

Anyway, I really laughed at dooce’s re-post tonight.

Here’s a quote from her blog entry:

and while I’m fully aware that most dogs like to hump now and then, you have to understand that I once witnessed Beaver Cleaver humping air. Empty air.

Isn’t she funny? Thanks to her. I learned the most important protocol in blogging. That is to never write anything satirical about your job, co-workers and most specially about your boss. Haha. But I wish there was something satirical to write about them. My life is boring. I had no problem with my colleagues. On the contrary, I was the problem. I was always best in tardiness, winner in absenteeism.

They must be really thankful that I’m no longer affiliated with the company. Haha. They’ve been very lenient to me, I mean the bosses. I am actually being given another chance to submit a resignation letter. So that I will not be “AWOL.”

:) :) :) Hay, time to work.

For budding entrepreneurs

According to my daily horoscope, now is the perfect time to start the business that I’ve been wanting for so long. So, it got me thinking what is that business that I’ve been wanting for so long? Because I can hardly remember ;) Certainly, I’ve dreamed of having my own franchise of Zagu and 7-Eleven but I obviously don’t have the capital for it just yet and it’d probably take more than my whole life to save enough for those type of businesses.

My sister said investing in a small grocery store is a wise decision because it’s very easy to manage. But somebody introduced me to stock market and since then I couldn’t take my mind off it. I like the idea of passive income, it’s like earning money the Sterndal way, I mean the lazy way. Hehe. Currently, I am trying to gather information about stock market as much as possible. I want to be knowledgeable enough about it before I take a leap.

Meantime, I stumbled upon an online business web directory where entrepreneurs can take advantage of getting their business listed. The listings in jasminedirectory are carefully arranged in different categories thus visitors and targeted clients can easily find your business’s home page. Unlike the expensive advertising campaigns, getting listed in a business directory is free of charge.

No matter what kind of business you are running, submitting in a listing like that of jasminedirectory is beneficial for the promotion of your business name. The mentioned directory is 100% SEO friendly which is probably the most important factor to make a good position in Google. The site is also W3 css and HTML valid and it also creates an automatic thumbnail for each submitted website. The best part is that you can submit up to 5 deep URLs of your choice but take note these are subject for approval by experienced editors who are constantly working to improve the site.

Going back to my horoscope, I am wondering if the prediction was really for me because my colleague told me that there has been some major changes in the Zodiac signs. I was a born a Leo but now I’m a Cancer?

New domain

I just a purchased a new domain a few days ago and I’m so excited about it. I know I will not be able to manage another blog but my heart is crying, she’s asking for a new blog, and after a few months of contemplating about it, I finally gave in. It’s not really a waste of money because it makes me happy. This particular blog will focus on a very special dream.

For the first time, I am considering of a hiring a SEO expert to help me get a high ranking in Google. But the possibility of it is very thin because I don’t want to spend more money. Anyway, I am currently having problems with CPanel. Every time I try to access the page, I get prompted to log in over and over again even if I login with the correct username and password.

I won’t be able to set up my new blog if I cannot access my CPanel. I already raised this concern to my host’s support team but they said they are able to log in without any problems. I was advised to use a different browser, which I already did, or try logging in from a different computer. But I only have one laptop and I don’t want to rent.  Please help.

Waiting for Google Page Rank update

Out of boredom, I made a spam blog a few months ago. Well, I can’t really call it spam because all of the posts which I have written for that site are original, just super non-sense, but original at the very least. My purpose was to test if Mr. Google can catch my anomalous blogging activities ;) I know how smart he is, but I was just thinking it would be nice to put him in an exam while I’m earning money.

Now, to promote my website, I submitted it to 26 blogging communities such as blogapedia, blogcatalog, skinnyblog, blogtoparea, globeofblogs, etc. It’s the easiest way to get a PR without having to exchange links with other bloggers. So, in just a month, that blog was able to get a PR1. As we all know it, Mr. Google doesn’t like selling links. But I did and after earning 16 dollars, I lost its PR on the second week of September 2010. Not bad.

After the 3-month test, I therefore conclude that Google is indeed a gifted child, a prodigy for that matter. Hehe. Honestly, I am not waiting for the next major Page Rank update which will probably happen this October. As I’ve said, Google is so smart. There is a fat chance that my PR2 for sterndal dot com will be lost too :)
